Birth of the Sexy Trueno
The AE86 Trueno released in May 1983 incorporated an FR layout even though FF was the mainstream at the time. Its engine was upgraded from the previous 2T‑G to the newly developed 4A‑G. As with the Levin, the available body types were a 3‑door hatchback and a 2‑door coupe. The model name varied by engine, with AE86 models equipped with the 4A‑G and AE85 models equipped with the 1,500 cc 3A‑U engine. Both AE86 and AE85 are still popular among fans.
