Originally built as a cargo ship for Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha and assigned to the New York route, this vessel was requisitioned as an auxiliary seaplane tender with the outbreak of the Second Sino-Japanese War, serving in operations along the Chinese front. During the Pacific War, it participated in the Dutch East Indies campaign and the evacuation of Kiska Island. In May 1943, it was sunk by a U.S. submarine while on a transport mission.
This kit recreates the Kamikawa Maru in its converted form as an auxiliary seaplane tender, in 1/700 scale as a plastic model kit. With a streamlined parts layout, it offers simple assembly while accurately capturing key features. Newly designed outfitting parts include 25mm twin machine guns and aircraft catapults.
