She was built at Kawasaki Dockyard according to the same 1934 plan as the Chitose class.
It is the same type of ship as the Chitose type, but the major difference is the adoption of a different canopy and diesel engine from the Chitose type, and the anti-aircraft armament has been strengthened. The kit replicated the front aircraft workbench, which has not been reproduced before.
